Saturday 1st April 2006

As Good As Grass editor:
Start planting your own salsa and pesto in the garden. Organic dishes save trips to the supermarket and promote healthy living. Even our astro turf and artificial grass customers can set aside an area for nurturing seeds. Start home growing trees and plants in your very own landcape garden!

Salsa and pesto herb seed growing kits are now available through Agromin, a Camarillo-based manufacturer of premium soil products. Each kit contains planting pots, seed packets, a herb garden wheel featuring 16 herbs and their usage, plant labels and a four quart bag of Agromin PowerMix with ProPower potting soil. Plants can be grown inside or outdoors.

Agromin Salsa Kit: includes four, four-inch pots, a salsa lover's cookbook and an assortment of six chili pepper seed packs (Serrano, Hungarian, Cayenne, Habanero, NM Joe Parker and Jalapeno). Cost: $34.95

Agromin Pesto Herb Kit: includes six, four-inch pots, a pesto herb cookbook and an assortment of six basil seed packets (Italian Large Leaf, Lime, Genovese Italian, Lemon “Mrs. Burns”, Thai Siam Queen, Greek Mini Yevani). The kit also includes mint and cilantro seed packs. Cost: $39.95

Soil included with each kit contains recycled green material (i.e., lawn clippings, leaves and tree limbs) that is chopped, cleaned and naturally composted before being placed into Agromin PowerMix potting soil bags. The soil contains no animal waste or sludge. Because the soil is rich in organic nutrients, gardeners need only add water to the soil and seeds. The seeds will grow into healthy herbs and peppers in 45 to 60 days.

Agromin also offers a Culinary Herb Kit that includes four, four-inch pots, basil, dill, oregano, thyme, cilantro and parsley seeds.

About Agromin:

Agromin manufactures premium soil products for the agriculture and horticulture trades and for home garden consumer use. For more than 30 years, Agromin has provided quality soil amendments and products to some of California's largest vegetable, citrus, avocado and strawberry growers. Each month, Agromin receives and processes about 20,000 tons of urban wood and green waste. Agromin then uses a safe, organic and scientific system to formulate its soil products from the processed recycled green waste. The result is healthier flowers, trees and plants in gardens. Regarding conservation, there will be reduced landfills and less greenhouse gas emissions.
